🔍 What Are Variant Options?
Variant options in Shopify are used to group different versions of the same product under one listing (Though often only used for filtering when used by a reseller or vintage store). For example, one t-shirt product with 3 sizes and 2 colors.
Dropstitch allows you to:
Create variant options based on any field in your listing grid (e.g. Size, Color, Vendor)
Set them globally or assign them only to certain garment types
Disable variants completely by leaving this section empty
✅ When to Use Variants
Variants are ideal for:
Products that come in multiple sizes or colors
Bundling multiple units under one listing (like size runs of the same tee)
Keeping your store organized with fewer duplicate products
But not every vintage seller needs them—many stores prefer single-SKU listings. Dropstitch supports both setups.
🚫 Don’t Use Variants? That’s Fine.
If your store doesn’t use variants, simply leave the Variant Options section empty. Products will be uploaded as standalone items.
🛠 How to Add a Variant Option
Go to Settings → Preferences → Variant Options
Click + Add Variant Option
Choose a Linked Product Field Key (e.g. Size, Color, Vendor)
Add a Label – this is what Shopify displays (e.g. “Size”)
Decide where to apply it:
Globally (for all product types)
Or limit it to specific garment types (Top, Bottom, Accessory)
Click Add Variant Option to save
Example Setups
Regular Size Variant
Field:
Size
Label:

Category-Specific Variant

🧠 Best Practices
Use clean, consistent values in your source fields (e.g. avoid “Medium / M / M.” inconsistencies)
Avoid mixing variants with one-off items unless you group carefully
Don’t forget that variant values impact inventory tracking in Shopify
