🧩 Custom Attributes

Custom attributes in Dropstitch let you take full control over the data in your listings.

Updated over a week ago

šŸ¤– What Are AI-Powered Attributes?

AI-powered attributes are optional data fields that Dropstitch can fill in automatically based on your uploaded images. These attributes are perfect for enriching your listings with detailed, context-specific information—without the manual work.

Examples include:

  • Music Artist – for band t-shirts or tour merch

  • Football Team – for vintage sportswear

  • Jeans Wash – like acid wash, stonewash, etc.

  • Theme – general theme of the garment

šŸ› ļø How to Enable AI Attributes

  1. Go to Settings → Preferences → Custom Attributes

  2. Browse the available attributes

  3. Toggle on the ones you want to use

  4. These will appear as new columns in your Listing Grid

  5. After image analysis, Dropstitch will auto-fill these values

You can edit these values at any time by clicking the cell in the grid and updating the value.

āœļø Manual Custom Attributes

Manual attributes allow you to define and manage your own custom data fields. These are ideal for structured details that AI doesn’t need to extract—for example, a condition grade, warehouse location, or internal stock codes.

Supported attribute types:

  • Text (e.g., ā€œLimited Editionā€)

  • Number (e.g., item weight or sleeve length)

  • Single select dropdown (e.g., sizes like S/M/L)

  • Multi-select (e.g., tags like ā€œfestival, y2k, meshā€)

āš™ļø How to Create Manual Attributes

  1. Go to Settings → Preferences → Custom Attributes

  2. Click Create new attribute

  3. Choose a name and data type

  4. Decide whether it should be added to your product tags or metafields (Shopify specific)

  5. Your new attribute will now show up in the Listing Grid for every new product

You can fill in values manually or use bulk-editing features to speed up the process.

🧠 Using Attributes in Templates

Both AI and manual attributes can be inserted into your dynamic templates for titles and descriptions. Just use the attribute name as a placeholder in your template—for example:

Vintage @decade @brand @garment_type - @size

If the attribute is filled in, Dropstitch will automatically add it to your final listing text.

šŸ’” Best Practices

  • Only enable the attributes you’ll actually use—this keeps your grid clean and focused

  • Use manual attributes for operational details and internal data

  • Use AI attributes to enhance your product storytelling and discoverability

  • Customize attribute labels if needed (e.g., rename ā€œMusic Artistā€ to ā€œBandā€)

  • Combine with bulk actions to update multiple items at once

  • Connect custom attributes to your tags or metafields to use them as data points in your Shopify environment

ā“Troubleshooting

AI didn’t detect the right value?
→ You can always overwrite it manually.

Not seeing your custom attribute in the grid?
→ Scroll all the way to the right in your listing grid, new attributes are added there. You can drag and drop them to your preferred position.

🧩 Summary

Custom attributes give you powerful control over your product data—automated when you want speed, manual when you want precision. Use them to make your listings smarter, more relevant, and better tailored to your audience.
