Research product details and prices with Google Lens

Use Google Lens to research specific Attributes, compare relevant current marketplace listings for Price, and review the result before publishing.

Use Google Lens when you want Dropstitch to research a specific data point that is not obvious from the product photos or details you already have. Choose the Attribute, keep the request focused, and review the result before publishing.

Before you start

  • Google Lens research is available to all Dropstitch users with no additional usage charge while we gather feedback. You still choose which Attributes use it.

  • Prepare one representative item with a clear primary product photo.

  • Make sure the Attribute is active and configured under Set up Attributes in Dropstitch.

  • Use the desktop List and Product Studio workflow for your first test.

  • For Price research, decide which marketplaces and country best match the market you want to compare.

How it works

Google Lens researches the specific data point requested by each enabled Attribute. It does not check whether an existing non-Price value is correct. It researches the data point you asked for and returns a result when it finds enough useful information.

Google Lens is especially useful when the requested information needs to be extremely specific. These examples show how to use it for a non-Price Attribute and for Price:

Comparison

Extremely specific detail

Marketplace Price

Data point to research

The exact season of a football jersey, such as 1998–99

A sensible starting Price from relevant current listings

Setup

Enable Include in AI Output and Use Google Lens for a Season Attribute

Enable Include in AI Output and Use Google Lens for Price, then choose Compare prices on and Research country

What Google Lens researches

The requested Season data point

Relevant current listings from the selected marketplaces and country

What you review

The researched season, reasoning, and sources

The comparison range, suggested Price, and source relevance

Research is opt-in for each Attribute. An Attribute is researched only when it is active, included in AI output, and has Use Google Lens enabled.

A researched Price is based on relevant current listings. It is a starting point, not a verified sold-comp valuation, guaranteed sale price, or statement of true market value.

If Google Lens cannot find enough useful information for the requested data point, the Attribute may stay empty. The rest of the product can still finish processing, and a no-result case may not produce a useful Research Report.

How to use it

  1. Go to Settings > Attributes.

  2. Open the Attribute you want Dropstitch to research.

  3. Confirm that the Attribute is active.

  4. Turn on Include in AI Output.

  5. Turn on Use Google Lens.

  6. Optionally add short AI Instructions that state the exact data point and output format you want, such as Return the football jersey season as YYYY–YY.

  7. If this is a Price Attribute, choose one or more marketplaces under Compare prices on and select the Research country. Leave the marketplace selection empty only when a broader country-level search is useful.

  8. Save the Attribute.

  9. Open List, upload one clean item into Product Studio, confirm its photo group in Organizer, and click Continue to move it into Product Buffer. See How to List Items in Dropstitch for the complete desktop path.

  10. Wait until Researching has finished.

  11. When Google Lens returns a result, open the search icon on the product image to view the Research Report.

  12. For a non-Price Attribute, check the researched data point, reasoning, and sources. For Price, check the suggested Price, comparison range, and sources. Edit the final result when needed, then publish only after it is correct.

Success check

  • The selected Attribute has Include in AI Output and Use Google Lens enabled.

  • The representative item finishes processing without the research step blocking the rest of the product.

  • The non-Price Attribute contains a useful result for the requested data point, or stays empty when the information is not strong enough.

  • When Google Lens returns a result, the search icon opens a Research Report with supporting information.

  • For Price, the sources reflect the marketplace and country choices, and the final value is reviewed before publishing.

Tips

  • Start with one Attribute and one item before expanding the setup.

  • Use a clear primary image that shows the product rather than packaging, props, or unrelated items.

  • Add known details such as the brand, product type, team, or collection when they help distinguish similar products.

  • Use Google Lens for Attributes that genuinely benefit from outside information. Leave obvious or fast manual fields out of the research flow.

  • Google Lens adds processing time and does not produce a strong result for every requested data point.

  • Wait until Researching has finished before entering a final manual Price.

Use it when

Expected research scope

No marketplace selected

You want a broader market view

Relevant current listings within the selected research country

One marketplace selected

One channel best represents the item and customer market

Current listings from that selected marketplace

Several marketplaces selected

You want a broader comparison across relevant channels

Current listings across the selected marketplaces

The Research country controls the market being compared. It does not set your store's default currency. When the report shows currency-conversion information, review it against Set up Localization Settings in Dropstitch.

This selection logic keeps research focused on the Attributes and market context you deliberately chose instead of applying it to every field by default.

Troubleshooting

  • Did the Attribute stay empty? Confirm that it is active and that both Include in AI Output and Use Google Lens are enabled. Make the Attribute or AI Instructions ask for one clear data point, then try one item with clearer photos or details. Enter the result manually when needed.

  • Did Google Lens research the wrong data point? Simplify the Attribute name and AI Instructions so they request one specific answer. For example, ask for Season instead of a broad description of the jersey.

  • Are the Price comparisons irrelevant? Check Compare prices on and Research country, then inspect the queries and sources in the Research Report. Narrow the marketplaces or enter your own final Price.

  • Is there no useful Research Report? When no grounded information is found, you may not see a useful Research Report. Check the Attribute settings and product context, then enter the value manually when needed.

  • Is processing slower than expected? Google Lens adds processing work. Turn off Use Google Lens for Attributes that do not need outside information.

  • Did a manually entered Price change unexpectedly? Stop before publishing, restore and verify the intended Price, record the affected product, and contact support.

  • Is the output currency unexpected? Inspect the conversion details in the Research Report, then check your Localization Settings. Enter the correct manual Price before publishing if the conversion cannot be verified.

Value reflection

Researching one-of-one vintage items manually often means opening Google Lens and several marketplace tabs, then copying the result into the product record. Enabling Google Lens for selected Attributes keeps the requested result and supporting research with the product, reducing repeated searching while leaving the final details and Price under your control.
