๐Ÿ”ข What Is a Barcode in Dropstitch?

When you enable barcode generation, Dropstitch creates a unique barcode number for each product. This number is automatically prefilled in the Listing Grid and is also embedded in the barcode label you can print.

๐Ÿท๏ธ Barcode Settings

The Barcodes settings allow you to automatically generate unique barcodes for every product, customize the information displayed on the label, and ensure seamless inventory organization.

1. Barcode Generation

To use this feature, navigate to Settings > Barcodes.

  • Generate Barcode: Toggle this on to automatically create a unique barcode for every new product.

  • Barcode Format: Select the correct size for your label printer from the dropdown menu (e.g., Dymo, Zebra, Brother). We support the most common label sizes.

2. Include on Barcode Label

Customize the content that appears alongside the barcode on the printed label. You can toggle the following items on or off:

  • Product Title

  • Size

  • Price

  • SKU

3. Automatic Download

  • Automatic Download: Enable this to automatically generate and download a single PDF file containing all the barcode labels for your products immediately after you list them to an integrated marketplace.

Barcodes in Action

Once a barcode is generated, you can view the unique number in the Barcode column within the main listing grid. Printing the labels helps you attach the correct identifier to each garment, ensuring your stockroom is organized and preventing shipping errors.

Why use barcodes?

  • โœ… Prevent shipping errors between similar items

  • โœ… Speed up checkout in store at pop-ups or markets

  • โœ… Keep track of stock in your own system

  • โœ… Easily scan items when receiving returns or doing inventory

๐Ÿ’ก Best Practices

  • Print barcodes right after listing to avoid backlog

  • Stick barcodes on garments, hang tags, or poly bags depending on your workflow

  • Use a simple Dymo label printer for quick, high-volume printing

  • Scan barcodes at events to speed up sales or link stock to POS

  • Use SKUs + barcodes together for full internal traceability

๐Ÿง  Summary

Barcodes in Dropstitch help you track, sort, and sell with confidence. Whether youโ€™re prepping for a big vintage fair or just trying to stay organized in your stockroom, our barcode tools are built to make your workflow faster and more accurate.
